It's not every day that you come across a great winemaker like Roman Hermann, and even today was no exception. We had help from Diana and Peter, who have been friends with Roman's parents for many years, and we are grateful to them for broadening our horizons.
Before taking over his parents' business, Roman Hermann had traveled the world and worked at Fromm in New Zealand, at WillaKenzi in Oregon and at Friedrich Becker in the Palatinate, one of the best addresses for Pinot in Germany!
It was in the spring of 2003 when the contents of a light green Burgundy bottle, you know, those made of light glass that are usually used for simple, inexpensive wines, almost swept me off my feet. It simply had to be a great, mature Burgundy – breathtaking! As you might have already guessed, this was not the case. Instead, it was a 1990 Pinot Noir from the Friedrich Becker winery. To this day, it is one of the most beautiful Pinots I have ever tasted, and by far my most memorable Pinot experience!
Of course, this experience influenced my view of Hermann's wines and did not make it any easier for them to meet my expectations.
Since Roman Hermann's truly wonderful wines, which you absolutely must get to know if you don't already, have been available from us for a good year now and we have finally received the new vintage a few days ago, you know that Hermann not only fulfilled our expectations once, no, with flying colors we see our high expectations more than fulfilled with his new vintages as well.
Warm regards,
