Henin Romain - Bulle Libre

Henin Romain - Bulle Libre
Henin Romain - Bulle Libre, France - Champagne

Romain started out small, working just over one hectare. His wines were—no, they are—phenomenal, a true asset to the Champagne scene and, as a result, highly sought after. Together with his brother Thomas, Romain took over their parents’ domaine in 2022—today, the two of them tend to just under eight hectares of vines. I would describe the Henin brothers’ biodynamic approach as consistently uncompromising. Their wines are aged in small, used—and thus aroma-neutral—oak barrels before being bottled. The wines from “Bulle Libre” are free of added sulfur and dosage. That’s right—the name says it all. Producing great wines under the conditions described is not only backbreaking work, but also always a game of chance—or rather, a game with the weather—because only ripe fruit leads to success. What can I say? This is one of the most wonderful discoveries of recent years.
