“Quite attractive for a Californian,” I scribbled in my little black book. Yes, you've probably noticed that we've been looking around Burgundy intensively in recent years – or rather, learning about it, to be more accurate. Certainly, our focus has shifted, and with it our preferences. That's how this note came about. Even though this is not a Burgundy and does not pretend to be one, I still enjoy it immensely.
Its scent is unique, at least in the Rhys universe, I mean. It smells exotic, like pomegranate, then Tarocco oranges, but only to send a rush of tarragon into the race, which immediately gives way to a heavenly cherry aroma. And you won't believe it, but this guy has even more to offer, with hints of violet and peony. Complexity is redefined here. Concentrated red fruit and a powerful presence characterize the wine on the palate. Its tannins are not drying, but definitely present. But don't worry, the wine is so juicy that the tannins are washed away by the saliva that flows in abundance. This is a crisp Pinot Noir, completely unexpected in this style, at least in California. This wine will also thank you for every year you give it.
