Dutton-Widdoes Vineyard (planted in 1984) and Dutton-Jentoft Vineyard (planted in 2007), both located northwest of Sebastobpol in a cool region often shrouded in morning fog, provide the fruit for Ryan Pinot Noir, which was first produced in 2002. Both vineyards were planted in such a way that they do not need to be irrigated; in other words, the vines are not as close together as they are here in Europe. I am convinced that people in California today are increasingly remembering the times when vines were planted further apart, because California is not Central Europe.
The bouquet of the Ryan Pinot Noir is constantly recomposing itself, sometimes spicy kitchen herbs are in the lead, then a potpourri of wild berries works its way to the surface, but only to be immediately replaced by wonderful cherry aromas ... that's not possible, now it's liquorice that dominates - it goes on like this without interruption. Wow, that's what I call multi-layered and super exciting. Elegant, with finesse, the wine flows through the palate, showing silky tannins and great energy. The texture is unique! Heavenly, how the saliva flows ... this Ryan is juicy ... without end! A beastly delicious wine!
