Saint-Joseph Rouge

2023

Traubensorten Syrah
Trinktemperatur 16° - 18°

I don't seem to be the only one who likes Saint-Joseph, because Yann now also has two hectares of vines in the commune of Tournon, more precisely in Lieu-Dit Les Pierres, which were planted around 1995 and are therefore in their prime. Yann likes wines that combine elegance and power – by power, I don't mean opulent wines, no, no, by power I mean the combination of density and energy, two elements which, when they neutralize each other, result in a wonderfully harmonious and elegant wine. Yann does everything he can to ensure that his Saint-Joseph is exactly that kind of wine. Extraction takes place over a longer period of time, but very carefully, using remontage. Yann allows the wine to mature in demi-muid (600-liter oak barrels) and in aroma-neutral glass demijohns. The wine is seductive with its dark red, perhaps even blue fruit aromas, spices, and a hint of blood sausage—blood sausage is my personal interpretation of the aroma, which could also be described as intense minerality. It is wonderful how the wine then glides across the palate and its fine-grained tannins cling to the palate, but only until the moment when saliva floods the mouth, because this is a juicy wine in the truest sense of the word. Pure and clear to the point, a great wine, a great Syrah and an equally great Saint-Joseph, which can certainly compete with the famous wines of the appellation in terms of quality. Don't miss out on this wine if you like mineral, elegant Syrahs.
