The potential of the Baden region, not only for great Pinot Noirs, but also for Pinot Blancs and Chardonnays, is enormous. Alexander and Christoph have already demonstrated this several times in their young history. Vulkan, Kalk, Kanzel, Möhlin and Bellen were just the beginning. Of course, a brilliant one, but I am quite sure that these two are far from reaching their goal, that we will taste many more spectacular, unforgettable wines from them. It will be a feast! The first messengers are the wines from the Hohlen vineyard on the Zunzinger Rosenberg, which slopes steeply to the southwest and whose vines, which are between 50 and 60 years old for the region, are rooted in a thin layer of humus that nestles on weathered limestone, typical of the Markgräflerland. In the cellar, it's almost "like always at Wasenhaus". They act thoughtfully and focus on the terroir - why else would the guys press and bottle so many different wines? It's not a sweet treat, it's hard work. Incidentally, most of the grapes from the Hohlen vineyard are not destemmed. Well, so much for the fakes. Now to the subjective, my impressions when I taste the wine, which gives me indescribable pleasure: The aroma of the Hohlen is clear and pure, with floral components one moment and spicy ones the next setting the tone. The bass is provided by wonderful dark berry aromas. The wine flows confidently onto the palate, building up pressure and revealing its silky, wonderfully integrated skeleton. The finish is intense and almost endless. What a great wine. If only there were more of it - which, incidentally, applies to every wine that bears the Wasenhaus label.
