Spätburgunder Möhlin

2023

Traubensorten Spätburgunder
Trinktemperatur 14° - 16°

The Möhlin faces south and stands on barren soil high up on the Ehrenstetter Ölberg. It is mainly German clones with a few French ones (Sélection massale, planted by Dr. Henrik Möbitz) that grow here on a mighty steep slope. Here, most of the grapes go into the fermentation vat, where everything begins ultra-traditionally with a marcération carbonique and later ends in an open mash fermentation. The pigeages are sensitive and not too frequent, gentle and unhurried, in other words, sensitive. The aroma of Möhlin is complex and simply superb. Orange peel, flowers, blueberries and, with more air, black tea. Spices come together to create an outrageously elegant perfume that makes you keep bringing the glass to your nose, the fragrance is so fascinating. Dense, moving with enormous energy, it makes a powerful impression. The structure that shapes the wine is superb. The finish is breathtaking. But the wine demands patience, even more than the pulpit and barking. In any case, the Möhlin is a gigantic wine, not in terms of format, where are you thinking, this wine, like all the others that Alexander and Christoph make, is all about finesse and elegance, no, I'm just talking about the sheer quality of the wine!
