Whenever I hear or read the word “Pelaverga”, I experience the same flashback: I see us – my dearest wife at my side – sitting on the terrace of the Sorelle Burlotto in Verduno, enjoying a plate (a large one!) of their naturally homemade agnelotti and sipping a glass, sometimes two, of their delicious Pelaverga. Back then, we made the pilgrimage to the Burlotto sisters in Verduno for the food, but we always liked their Pelaverga very much. San Barnaba's version is perhaps the archetype of Pelaverga-based wines. Its bouquet is truly enticing, marked by aromas of ripe red berries, a seductive hint of orange peel and accented with spicy notes, I almost said cloves. In any case, I almost couldn't get the glass away from my nose. However, that was only until I took the first little sip, because at that moment, when the wine took my palate, I was completely won over. Wow, THIS IS MY WINE! I have never tasted anything like this in Italy. You may find my statement somewhat contradictory when you read that the wine feels light and fleeting, moves in a dance-like and playful way, and yet is powerfully present, showing character, no, personality. And yet it is the truth, nothing but the truth. Its finish is breathtaking, seemingly endless and so gloriously mineral. I get everything I expect from a wine from San Barnaba's Pelaverga. Kudos, guys!
