We were like you, or are you saying you're not surprised? A solera wine from Burgundy from Jean-Marc Vincent, William Kelley's (he writes about Burgundy for Robert Parker, among others) favorite winemaker in Burgundy. I was completely gobsmacked. And I have to say I was skeptical, because I'm not a fan of oxidation. Jean-Marc must have seen it in my face, because he grinned like a thief as he let the wine flow from the pipette into my glass; and while the wine was flowing, he explained what he was letting us taste. So my facial expressions gave me away. As quickly as skepticism arose, it quickly disappeared again. Sure, I know, this is Jean-Marc Vincent, one of the few great perfectionists in Burgundy. So, this Solera is a hellishly refined wine with a fine nutty, wonderfully fruity aroma and fills the palate with plenty of juice and power. The wine is unimaginably long, its finish is salty, so really mineral, juicy and wonderfully fresh. A new experience that you absolutely must try. This wine is GENIUS!
