You may already be familiar with the Mâcon-Bussières appellation, as the Lafon family also produces a delicious wine there, occasionally. However, they now have some competition, and what competition! For me, it is clear who is ahead—Verget, of course, otherwise we would be offering Lafon wines. Knowing that the wine grows on limestone, you can't help but detect an intense minerality in the bouquet. This wine also follows the principles of the Guffens-Heynen-Delplans duo and displays a fine reduction that makes the wine all the more exciting and better. Flowers and white berries combine with the scent of cedar peel, and a hint, but really just a hint, of roasted hazelnuts adds some bass to the perfume alongside juicy pear aromas. Dense, yet with fascinating energy and perfectly integrated acidity, the wine strings together one highlight after another, one surprise after another. Again and again, you have to smell the wine first, then let a small sip flow across your palate to enjoy this fascinating texture and aromas once more, sipping and savoring the “tonic aromas” until a subtle salty note emerges, revealing the incredible minerality of this wine. This is powerful stuff!
