So, I want to get this out of the way right at the start of my description: this wine is a little sensation for me! Out of the 24 wines we tasted, this one ranked among the top five. This wine was grown in a vineyard opposite Guffens-Heynen's famous Chavigne. Julien vinified this wine in the cellar using completely neutral aromas, i.e., in steel tanks, to ensure that this wonderful terroir is captured in the bottle in its purest, most unadulterated form. Bravo, Julien! And there's no press wine in here! Cool, you usually only find that in much more expensive wines, but not with Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen and Julien Deplans! As is often the case with Guffens-Heynen or Verget, this wine also shows a fine reduction, which for me further enhances its class. It's wonderful how the wine smells of yellow fruits, berries and also a little pear, before pretty white floral aromas combine with fine spice to create an irresistible fragrance. It moves through the palate with great power and enormous energy, ending with what I find to be an irresistible “tonic aroma” that makes me want to sip and smack my lips incessantly – as you can see, I really like this wine a lot. I am fascinated by it and am delighted to have got hold of a few bottles, which I am happy to share with you, because shared joy is double joy!
