Jean-Marie Guffens is an incredibly charismatic person, an intellectual, but just as much a hedonist; above all, he is a multifaceted man. C. C. refers to three of his five total plots, which together cover an area of about one hectare within the appellation. Here, Guffens combines the fruit from three plots: two facing northeast, where the vines root in a thin layer of humus (strewn with stones) on limestone, and one east-facing plot where the vines grow on clay-limestone. The aroma of this wine is incredible, constantly reinventing itself and drawing on notes of orange peel and peach, along with wonderfully light, almost fleeting floral scents and an enchanting hint of nutmeg. There is life here, a dynamism that is unparalleled! The presence of this wine on the palate is intoxicating, yet despite all that presence, it never loses its precision or elegance… how on earth does Jean-Marie pull this off, how? It’s magical. The wine’s finish is—as you can surely imagine—breathtaking and delivers exactly as one would expect. After all, it’s a Guffens-Heynen!
