Sancerre Monts Damnes

2023

Traubensorten Sauvignon Blanc
Trinktemperatur 10° - 12°

There is no location in the Sancerre appellation more famous or spectacular than Monts Damnés. This is where the most beautiful, best, and largest Sauvignon Blancs in the entire appellation grow. Unlike other winemakers, and perhaps somewhat unusual for us, the Denizots entrust their Monts Damnés to wooden barrels – Demi-Muids, which hold 600 liters, and Cigares, which hold 325 liters of wine. But don't worry, the barrels are not new, or rather, one was new, so the wine had taken on a hint of aroma, which I don't mind at all in this wine. On the contrary, I quite like this slightly smoky note, which reminds me a little of Dagueneau's wine from Sancerre. The aroma of this wine is fascinating and complex, ranging from floral tones to fruity notes – lime and cedri are the main players – to a elderflower component that makes the aroma so wonderfully expressive. Dense and spectacularly energetic, the wine fills the palate and shows a powerful presence before unleashing its zesty side and making the mouth water. The finish is long and wonderfully mineral. This is Sauvignon Blanc at its best!
