That's right, this wine symbolizes the white quintessence of the Saumur appellation, as it does for me personally and for many, many wine enthusiasts around the globe. This great white is a wine that will demand a little more patience from all of us than we would like - aren't you the impatient type? Well, sometimes I can hardly wait. But well, that's the way it is.
Charpentrie grows in the famous Brézé vineyard, on great terroir. The vines are 100 years old. That's amazing. Isn't it? How deep these plants must be rooted? There, deep in the soil, in the Eldorado of minerals, the vines help themselves as they please and store what they don't need themselves in their fruit. The result is a fabulous wine that smells of black tea as well as the usual Chenin Blanc aromas. Of course, these tea aromas are only a sideshow; melon and a potpourri of berry aromas, together with delicate floral notes and the scent of honeycomb, combine to create an astonishingly complex perfume. Powerful and dense, the wine takes possession of the palate until suddenly the structure takes over and a wonderful acidity reshapes the wine. The texture of the wine is indescribable and its finish is eternally long, full of finesse and simply an experience. A great wine, one that you must have had in your glass!
