Man, I was excited, no, I was really nervous when I set off for Savigny-lès-Beaune early one Monday morning to meet with Caroline and Benjamin. I had never had the opportunity to taste any of their wines before. That's right, the Guilbert-Gillet wines were like a phantom of the past for me, as they were for most of us. Benjamin gave me a warm welcome and immediately showed me around his very neatly organized cellar. The first red wine was this one, their Bourgogne Rouge. I can always tell from the simplest wine how serious the winemaker in question is. And here at Guilbert Gillet it was immediately clear that Caroline and Benjamin are serious, very serious, not to say deadly serious. It was wonderful to see how this young wine presented itself: not only light in color, but also with a light aroma or aromas of light red fruits, berries. Wonderful! This “little” red wine moves elegantly yet powerfully through the palate, coating it in silk. What a great wine!
