Bourgueil Jour de Soif

2023

Traubensorten Cabernet Franc
Trinktemperatur 16° - 18°

What a name for a wine! The Gauthiers are alluding to its cheerful character, its accessibility, and the joy and fun that this seemingly small wine delivers. I am definitely a fan and think that you can't get better entertainment for this price, only different! But of course, we also want to give you a few facts:

Around 60 percent of the Cabernet Franc for this wine grows on gravel in the plain, so to speak, where the Loire flowed centuries ago and deposited the gravel. The rest grows on the slope, on what was once the riverbank. The vines were planted in the late 1990s, 5,000 vines per hectare, facing south. Destemmed and macerated for around eight days, gently extracted by “remontage,” fermented spontaneously, i.e., without the addition of yeast, and finally aged in barrels. That's all the magic in the cellar—or rather, no magic at all. The following spring, it's already time for bottling. Wonderfully fresh, fruity, but dark – a back and forth between blackcurrant and dark cherries. Magnificent mineral components, everything combines to create a forbidden, beguiling aroma. Round, light, playful, super juicy and endowed with the finest, most delicate tannins, this is a sophisticated, devilishly delicious wine that flows almost without resistance. Jour de Soif indeed! But don't be fooled, this wine also has a serious side, because it is far from banal. The vines that produce the grapes for this wine receive a lot of attention from Rudolphe and Pierre, and neither of them are into frills in the cellar, just like us. A wine that is simply a lot of fun.
