Savigny-lès-Beaune ROUGE 1er Cru «Les Peuillets»

If the Village Savigny was the journeyman's piece, then this here is, right, the MASTERPIECE! There is no shame in kneeling before a Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru. All of you who have already had the opportunity to taste this wine know exactly what I am talking about here. It is only of secondary importance in which appellation a wine grows – certain structures, textures and aromas can be attributed to the appellation – but in the end, only the winemaker guarantees entertainment at the highest level. And here the level is really high. I am sure that you have spent a lot more on a bottle of wine and not been half as entertained – of course you first have to get hold of one of these super-rare bottles to even have a chance of joining in the conversation, but that's a completely different problem. Peuillets need time, a lot of time, ideally in the bottle or, if you're impatient, two hours in the carafe, at least. Only then does the wine open up, tentatively at first, but with indescribable beauty! I am blown away! If this wine were available as a perfume, I would buy it for my wife immediately – but it would be the only one on her side of the wardrobe. Ripe raspberries in abundance, a hint of cinnamon, just a hint, complemented by wonderful spice components and a touch of preserved orange peel. The feeling on the palate is divine, too. At first, the wine exerts a lot of pressure before it reveals its structure and its tannins caress the palate as fine as silk, allowing you to flick your tongue and enjoy the wine's magnificent texture. Wonderful! Kudos to you both. I'm looking forward to more!
